Meet your host - Luis Gutierrez, proud owner of Puerto Vallarta Mexican Restaurant in Sioux Falls.


Luis was born in the town of Jalisco, Mexico. When he was a young boy he moved to the state of California and lived there for a number of years before relocating to Washington state. In Washington, Luis worked for a friend of his who owned a family operated Mexican Restaurant. He started as a bus boy and advanced his career to that of a chef.

More and more, Luis began to build a passion for his work and decided to bring fine Mexican food to Sioux Falls. After getting settled in South Dakota, Luis got married and had three children. Luis loves Sioux Falls because of friendly people, a good education system, and easy goin' traffic.

Puerto Vallarta has been around for a little over 10 years. Luis and his staff pride themselves on maintaining a clean, family oriented restaurant and encourage people to experience great authentic Mexican Food.

Before you continue to our lists of Appetizers, Entrees, and Specials, take a few moments to acquaint yourself with some helpful terms:

Taco – Seasoned beef served in a crispy corn tortilla, topped with lettuce, cheese and tomato.

Tostada – Refried pinto beans served on a flat crisp corn tortilla, topped with lettuce, cheese and tomato.

Burrito – A rolled flour tortilla stuffed with choice of meat filling and topped with ranchero salsa.

Enchilada – Corn tortilla rolled and stuffed with choice of filling and topped with melted cheese.

Chalupa – (a big taco) Deep-fried flour tortilla includes beef, lettuce, cheese and tomatoes.

Chile Relleno – Omelette-style eggs rolled and stuffed with green pepper and cheese topped with Spanish sauce and melted Monterey Jack cheese.

Chorizo – Mexican sausage mixed with scrambled eggs.

Tamal – Corn masa filled with shredded beef, steamed until done and served with mild sauce and melted cheese.

Tortillas – Round, flat Mexican bread made of flour or corn.

Nachos – Deep-fried corn chips topped with melted cheese.

Cheese Crispy – Deep-fried flour tortilla topped with melted cheese.

Sopapillas – Traditional Mexican puffed pastry kissed with honey and sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar.

Chimichangas – Flour tortilla filled with chicken or beef, deep-fried and served with sour cream and guacamole.

Pollo – Chicken

Picadillo – Shredded beef seasoned lightly with spices.

Flan – Vanilla custard with burnt sugar topping.

Frijoles de la olla – Whole cooked beans (not refried).
